Sometime in our childhoods, I think all of us develop a dream that stays with us into adulthood: a certain something we want to accomplish before we die. As a kid bitten by the record collecting bug, that fanciful dream for me was to one day make a record of my own. As some of you know, I'm a semi-professional pianist specializing in ragtime and early jazz piano styles. I'm also a great admirer of the music of Bix Beiderbecke. Recently, while in Tokyo recording my new album, Breakin' Notes, I spent an evening recording Beiderbecke's four published "modern piano solos" for release as a pair of 78 rpm records. It took some doing to find a pressing plant that would master and manufacture 10-inch 78 rpm discs, but I finally found an audiophile vinyl facility in the Netherlands willing to take it on. Artist Joe Busam contributed some fine graphics for the cover, a delightful innser sleeve design, and labels. 500 copies were pressed. They are stereo microgroove records, so they are not suitable for use with old wind-up phonographs, but they will play beautifully on any modern turntable equipped with an LP stylus and 78 rpm speed.

Copies of the two-record set are still available. If you are so inclined, you may purchase one from Rivermont Records using the handy ordering button below. As a sample of what you can expect on the 78s, here is a video of my rendition of "In a Mist." This is not the same recording as on the 78, but it's very similar. Enjoy!
